Lapping
We have recently upgraded the equipment at our plant and so now we can offer cylindrical lapping with maximum roughness of Ra0.5. Working to commission and producing products either for sampling purposes or for small-medium batch production, we are often asked to ensure roughness tollerances that range from Ra0.5 to Ra0.8.
When applied to the precision mechanical sector, lapping is carried out on steel (after it has been tempered) above all for the creation of moulds for plastic materials, where there is a need for highly polished and transparent products (such as water bottles or car headlights) or for household products that can be easily washed in a dishwasher.
The surface obtained from the steel mould is created via sandpaper or a very fine emery paper made of dust from diamonds, silicon carbon etc.
Lapping moulds of plastic materials is quite difficult and so it is usually carried out by hand, passing from large-grain sandpaper (after the materials have been worked via the matrix or stamp of the tool-making machines (milling, lathing, electro-erosion) and so you use ever finer-grain abrasives in order to use the products noted above.
